the problem was the file you were trying to upload was a jpg. avatars have to be gif files.
I converted it real quick and uploaded it - after that was uploaded, the custom option appeared in your profile list fro avatars

hmmnnnn... I never had luck uploading a jg file as an avitar.
Oh well, I stand corrected.

Well obviously what you did seemed to work but I'm just saying the jpg file shouldn't be the problem. Maybe it was the jpg compression settings.
who knows. Very well could be.
I didn't (nor in the past) look at the compression settings or the size of hte jpg file.
who knows.
But it is there now.
In the end, that's all that matters.
